Daptone Records is a galaxy of artists gravitating around the Dap-Kings… the label was founded by 2 of them, Neal Sugarman and Gabriel Roth, respectively sax player and producer of the band, in 2001 in Brooklyn.
In the Daptone galaxy we find Sharon Jones, Charles Bradley, Lee Fields, Menahan Street Band, Budos Band, Antibalas… The friends from Big Crown Records are not far away (Léon Michels plays in Mehanan Street Band for example)… They even have a Rock sub-label, « Wick » with the incredible rock band The Mystery Lights of which I’m soooooo Fan..
Representing Daptone was my dream, the icing on the cake, the El Dorado!!!!
